St Anthony’s & Claddagh Credit Union wins Best of Galway awards

The excellence of the service provided by St Anthony’s & Claddagh Credit Union was reflected last Thursday when it was named the overall winner of the 2019 Best of Galway Awards.

At the ceremony attended by several hundred in the g Hotel, St Anthony’s & Claddagh Credit Union won, not only the finance services category, but the main prize as well.

More than 15,000 people voted in the awards which are organised by the Galway Advertiser as part of its drive to encourage the promotion of Galway businesses and services.

Mayor Niall McNelis said that Galway was fortunate to have a media as strong as the Galway Advertiser which has been promoting Galway for almost half a century.

He paid tribute to co-sponsor Ireland West Airport which he said was now “our airport” because the local authorities have an ongoing stake in its ownership.

Ireland West Airport managing director Joe Gilmore told the event that they are delighted to be associated with the event because of their strong affiliation to the city and county and in return for the business that comes their way from this area.

“We are delighted to support the Best of Galway and indeed Galway by sending hundreds of thousands of our customers to Galway every year.

“In return, we would ask everyone to look at the wide range of routes we have available when you are considering your next business or personal trip overseas,” he said.

He then told the audience that this was his Late Late Show moment, by offering everyone in the room a free return flight from Ireland West Airport to Cologne, to mark the launch of the service next month.

Galway Advertiser group editor Declan Varley told the event that the pursuit of excellence encouraged by the Best of Galway awards enhance the Galway experience for locals and visitors alike.

“We all contribute to this sense of Galwayness by being the best we can. All of you here this afternoon are engaged in the pursuit of excellence in the services and products you supply.

“By raising the bar in competitions such as this, and being proud to be the best in Galway, you are advancing the cause of Galwayness every single day.

“Every time you change your menu, alter your services or put up a sign in Irish, or say something quirky on social media, you are creating yet another reason why people want to work, live, and holiday here. By doing things the Galway way, you are adding to the attraction of the place,” he concluded.
